DIY FPV Flying wing
Fun flying around FPV. Still have a lot of kinks to work out, especially with the video transmission equipment. I'm pretty satisfied with INAV flight controller, though it's taken a lot of time to setup. I recently setup head-tracking and will post a video of that soon... (After I rebuild the plane from crashing into the ocean this summer!)

Aircraft Design Analysis of a flying wing
Просмотров 14 тыс.5 лет назад
This is an overview of design approach to a new flying wing I plan to build. When creating an airplane it is necessary to pin down certain design constraints, and in this situation I am prioritizing Cruising flight attributes. visit my website, AsaWeiss.com , to see more on this and other projects! Software used is XFLR5 : www.xflr5.tech/xflr5.htm for Mac and PC. I think it's free too! You need...

This is a simple creation I made to stabilize Binoculars so I can better spy on my neighbors spying on me. There are clearly improvements to be made but it works great for being just the first prototype! I'm interested in hearing comments and growing my network so feel free to connect to continue seeing more projects like these and visit AsaWeiss.com/journal for more juicy details.

latest flying wing I've been working on. I've really upped the depth of analysis to build these things and this one works great. So satisfying to see the calculations prove true when tossing this thing into the air on it's maiden flight. There's more projects at AsaWeiss.com , let's hear your comments, thanks!

Hiked up to the highest (and sketchiest) launch site at Mussel rock. Gorgeous evening and there were 100's of pilot whales migrating just offshore. An experienced pilot was kind enough to lend me some tips, help me launch, and totally school me as he worked some lift to stay aloft long after my flight. I'm a P3 certified pilot. Been flying since 2016, hoping to do an SIV course soon and grow mo...

This is the first version of my POV business card I created in April 2013. As far as I know, nothing else like it exists (specifically the idea of the reverse-swipe for POV, other POV projects simply repeat the message, oblivious of the swing direction or speed). I created the concept, laser cut the plastic card, developed code on the arduino and then ported it to an ATtiny chip, and tediously ...

Electric Paramotor, Propeller Backpack prototype1
Просмотров 1865 лет назад
I'm exploring electric flight, especially for electric paramotoring. This is a rig to get a sense of scale for the next version. This version is running at ~2000w with a 24x10" propeller. It is running on 14.8v and producing about 20lbs of thrust. It got me up to ~30mph on a longboard but wouldn't be quite enough to get airborne with a paraglider. This motor could output up to 5000W but I didn'...

Diy modification to my carbon mountain bike. Strapped on a 3kw motor. I used a 50v scooter battery pack and made a custom 30v pack in series to bring it up to 80v, 40A discharge, 20aH. Weighs in at 50lbs total. The electrical system cost about 400$ and the bike I pieced together for about 1000$. It's made my commute a lot more fun.
Controls Project - Propeller Balance Beam 2013

This is an older project I made for my Controls Engineer Class. It's a single degree of freedom balance beam using propellers to maintain level position. I embarked upon this to eventually completely build fully controlled quadcopters. I couldn't find any information to derive the Transfer function of the of my ESC motor propeller system, so I deduced it: I used a high-speed camera and counted ...

    You should add a third motor with a lens attached to it that moves forward and backward and a hot femtosecond laser to make laser induced plasma (which creates a luminous dot in the air) and have the machine make a few shapes with it. the lens will be able to change the y axis of the dot so you can create a volumetric image in the air.

      You don’t have to. But if you are interested in the idea, you should look up laser induced plasma displays when you have a chance.

  • @mikekelsey6777
    @mikekelsey6777 3 года назад

    The following is my "Keeping it Simple" design. I started flying hang gliders in 1973. Also got involved with remote control gliders as well. Then I really got interested in learning more about the aerodynamics of hang gliders. in 1973 they were fairly primitive. I turned to paper to see if I could improve on the Rogallo design. It did not take me but a year to create a flying wing made of paper and Scotch Tape. It did not look anything like the Rogallo of the early 1970's but more like the modern hang gliders of today. The video I present is showing a quick build of the "OmniWing" and a flight off of Mount Nebo, in Arkansas. It is a surprising flight and I am so glad that my wife caught it on video. Enjoy! ruclips.net/video/SrZ1bqU_g4o/видео.html

    The thrust at the cruise speed would be significantly less than the calculated static thrust. (surprisingly, cruising is not static)

    • @robojuan
      @robojuan 2 года назад

      that's a great point. The plane flies great but I did notice the necessary throttle was higher than I originally calculated. I'll take a look around for dynamic thrust calculation. Looks like thrust essentially drops off linearly from Static down to the pitch speed. www.flitetest.com/articles/propeller-static-dynamic-thrust-calculation . I was thinking It'd be fun to get a rough measurement on it by sticking the motor+load cell to a car. Feel free to share any other useful resources

      Hi, thanks for your interest. Yes I dropped this a while ago. There are some other POV displays I think are more novel to explore. I just used the stepper motors I had on hand they were not fast or precise enough. There are other actuators better suited for this application than steppers. My eventual plan was to mount the device on a quadcopter and draw big vector images on the ground... perhaps a giant size game of PONG on the street, the size of a real tennis court. happy to chat more

    • @robojuan
      @robojuan 7 лет назад

      Hi there! Just like any technique you're trying to refine: break it down and focus on the hard part. It seems like you'll want to spend some time working ONLY on the up-strokes. Start by making an easy, pleasant chord like Emajor do big strong up-strokes, making EVERY string loud and crisp, even the low E string. Adjust your hand position and angle to get the right volume balance between all the strings. Now lighten the pressure on your pick to get a quieter sound. Try to do the kind of strokes we're doing in the video at ~6:30: it's a rotation of your forearm with your wrist loose to flick up and down. As with most good things, it will a little time and let your ear guide you. Unfortunately I haven't had time to give lessons lately but it looks like there are many other helpful videos you should take a look at. Hope that helps!
